Landlord wants 3 months payslips + 6 months bank statements for a R9k flat. Normal?

Friend in Randburg got this list yesterday. No viewing yet, just the PDF application from hell. I've seen worse in Cape Town (hello R15k admin fee that "might be refundable"), but this feels like they're fishing for reasons to say no. If you've rented recently — what documents did they actually use vs what they asked for upfront?
